Ok how and why I got mine! After much service and devotion, my beautiful and finely tuned wife, decided to refurbish her life style and her status of 26 years, she leaves me, I was devastated, big time. A finely tuned and set up ricky is a thing to behold! With a nice tube amp or 2 your set I've been playing long and hard enough to know what a good sounding guitar is, I have a very accute ear. I'd like to hear from some other Rickenbacker lovers down under!īut here is my tale of my two Rickys. Those in the USA are in a much better position to puchase a Ricky. There are many costs and overheads involved, they come in all directions, I call it sitting duck syndrome! The exchange rate, post costs or shipping costs, insurance, import duties, quarantine fees, GST addition, and maybe more, if you go via a retail shop add a hefty mark up too! Now that's a big financial turnstile, and I forgot there is always risk involved. I live in Australia, so I know how hard it is to get a Rickenbacker outside the USA. I'm fortunate to own 2 Rickenbackers amongst others. Hi I'm new to this post, but I have been playing and practising guitar and music since age 7 years, I teach. then the string spacing/tension of 12 to 54 string gauge on a short scale neck with the limited fretboard space is not going to make your day.įor a lead guitarist the 350V63 is the superior axe! If you are only playing chords and have the ability to get used to the miniscule scale and neck width of a 325 you will be fine, but if you play a lot of lead guitar with bending of notes, hammer ons, finger vibrato etc. Which brings me to your recommendation of a 325, I think it matters as to what style of playing a muso is into.

I have a 1997 350V63 with 12k toasters and a 2004 350V63 with 7.4k toasters, in a comparison I agree with your assessment that the 7.4K 350V63 has a brighter and thinner overall tone, but I assure you that with new strings it sounds richer, very jangly and full of sparkle, adjusting the blender pot can get it sounding very smoky blues or dark and ballsy, add a tube screamer and get totally rocked! The 1997 12k 350V63 is different it has more bass and mid tones, sounds louder and more gutsy and is a lead guitar weapon of choice for me. To be fair both guitars should be compared in equal condition. In your original thread you admitted that the 350 you tried had old/poor condition strings on it, this alone makes your tone comparison to the 325 somewhat invalid. I have read your posts regarding your comparisons of a 350V63 and 325, I must say that I both agree and disagree with your observations.
